BEN TANINGCO, CITED BY PCAMRD-DOST

For his continues support to the programs of the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD),one of the sectoral councils under the Department of Science and Technology, Hometown Journalist Ruben E. Taningco was cited by Science Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro last Thursday, January 31, 2008 during the commemoration of the 20th Founding Anniversary of the council held at the PCAMRD Headquaters Building in Los Baños, Laguna.

The citation reads “for his invaluable support to the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development-Department of Science and Technology (PCAMRD-DOST) in disseminating aquatic and marine technologies and information related to aquatic and marine resources protection and conservation; for popularizing technical information’s language to reach the various level of society – the farmers, the fish farmers, the fisherfolk, the students, the researchers, the entrepreneurs,the policy-makers, and the general public; and for assisting PCAMRD in the technology transfer activities through the print media.”

It is recalled by the old timers at the City Hall that Taningco, then connected with the Office of the City Engineer was assigned to provide communication support to the Technology Transfer Program being implemented by the Field Office of the defunct National Science Development Board (NSDB) for Southern Tagalog based in this city by Mayor Cesar P. Dizon from March of 1968, a responsibility that he undertook until the regional office of the DOST-Region IV was transferred to Los Baños. He started servicing the communication needs of PCAMRD since December of 1997.

Dr. Rafael D. Guerrero III, PCAMRD Executive Director, said other awardees in the print media category are Rodolfo A. Fernandez of The Philippine Star, and Zac Sarian, Agriculture Editor of The Manila Bulletin. In broadcast media category, among the awardees are Adolfo “Gerry” Geronimo of Ating Alamin now being aired at IBC 13, and Station Manager Angelo Palmones of Radio DZMM. (Sandy Belarmino)

Passed the BAR Examination in the State of New York, U. S. A.

Miss Philippines-USA 2004-2005, Barbara Jean Chumacera Apostol, 27, passed the New York State’s examination for admission to the BAR given on July 24-25, 2007 . She attained her law degree at Hofstra University School of Law in the State of New York where she graduated with honors last May 20, 2007 . At Hofstra Law School , Barbara was the Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and was appointed to the position of Diversity Affairs Coordinator by the president of the Student Bar Association. Ms. Apostol was a 2002 cum luade graduate of Boston College, one of the oldest Jesuit University in the United States with campus in Chestbut Hill, Massachusetts, where she majored in pre-law and communication studies.
