JCIP San Pablo Seven Lakes, Outstanding in the Philippines


Under the leadership of JCI Member Rafael Reyes Dela Cruz as President for Administrative Year 2007, the JCI San Pablo 7 Lakes or San Pablo “Seven Lakes” Jaycees, Inc. received four (4) major awards, and two (2) merit awards during the recently held National Convention in Cebu City, making this local organization (LOM) as one of the most decorated chapters in the Philippines according to JCI Philippines National President Albert Raphael Angelo “RIP” A. Lesaca when he attended the 60th Induction of Officers held last Saturday at Coco Palace Hotel in this city.

President Rip said the four (4) majors awards that JCIP San Pablo Seven Lakes received were “Best United Nations Millennium Development Goals Project” for Project: Stop AIDS. Keep The Promise; “Best Sports Development Program” for Project: 11th KABYAW ( A Bikathon Race to visit city’s seven lakes); “Best Youth Activities Program” for Project: Youth Leadership Camp; and “Best Public Health Program” for Project: Adopt A School: Feeding Program. The two (2) merit awards were: “Best Public Relations Program” for Project: JCI Mardigras; and “Education for Peace Program” for Project: Academic Olympiad. In effect, JCI San Pablo Seven Lakes Rank 10 in the final JCPEA Counting which is an honor considering that there are more 200 active JCI local organizations in the country today. (Ben Taningco)

DOÑA LEONILA (MINI-FOREST) PARK

What is now known as Doña Leonila (Mini-Forest) Park overlooking the Sampaloc Lake is actually a portion of the site for the City Hall Complex purchased in 1937 by the Municipal Government of San Pablo headed by President Inocencio Barleta, which was partly developed after the termination of World War II under the administration of appointed City Mayor, Dr. Fernando A. Bautista. During the incumbency of elected Mayor Lauro D. Dizon Sr., with the help of the Rotary Club of San Pablo, and under the supervision of Dr. Juan B. Hernandez, then club secretary of the local Rotary Club and Chairman of the City Beautification Committee, constructed some park structures at the park, with the fountain featuring the country lass with agriculture harvest as centerpiece.
