LAZARO LAUDS SEIZURE OF ILLEGAL COCO LUMBERS

Laguna Gov. Teresita “Ningning” S. Lazaro has lauded the efforts of the Laguna Provincial Police Office (LPPO) headed by Provincial Director (PD) PSSupt. Manolito C. Labador for confiscating around 2,500 board feet of coco lumbers without permit to transport.

This transpired last January 20, 2009 at around 11:00 am when the elements of the 406th PPMG led by SPO1 Artemio Novillos apprehended a vehicle containing the hot logs. The 406th PPMG was currently conducting a mobile patrol, and an anti-illegal logging operation specifically at Maharlika Hi-way in Brgy. San Juan, Alaminos, Laguna that moment.

In the report submitted by PSupt. Mariano H. Liwag, of the 406th PPMG to PD Labador, the suspects were intercepted while transporting the coco lumbers which were owned by Fidel Evidente y Faller of Brgy. Burlongan, Magdalena, Laguna. The suspects were caught loading the logs to the Isuzu elf alum van with plate numbers WAF – 5-9 covered with OR Number 668791270 and serial number 29955155. The vehicle is registered to Virginia G. Articona of Magdalena, Laguna. When approached, one of the subjects failed to present a Permit To Transport from the Philippine Coconut Authority or PCA.

The suspects were identified as Abel Abarquez y Baliwag, 28 yrs old of Brgy. Baanan, Magdalena, Laguna; and Ronald Magtibay y Moralla, 32 yrs old of Brgy. Malaking Ambling, Magdalena, Laguna. The confiscated lumber will serves as evidence that will be forwarded to PCA Provinial Office in Alaminos, Laguna.

Aside from Gov. Lazaro who congratulated the LPPO, PRO IV-A (Police Regional Office IV-A) Regional Director (RD) PCSupt. Perfecto P. Palad also applauded the efforts of the Laguna police for doing a great job. (Cris Sanji)

  1. Just a few additional notes.

While it is true that the truck was registered to Virginia Articona at the time the suspects were intercepted, the same was no longer owned by her. The truck was sold to FEDELINO F. EVIDENTE, a coco lumber transporter, in March 2008, or ten months before the interception. Mrs. Articona has no connection whatsoever with the transport of the logs.

This is just to clear up whatever unpleasant impression it may have created or may create on Mrs. Articona’s name.

    Thank you.
