VIC AMANTE IS OUTSTANDING CITY MAYOR

City Mayor Vicente B. Amante will be recognized as “Outstanding City Mayor in the Field of Social Welfare and Development” by the Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines, Inc. during its 11th National Social Welfare and Development Forum to be held at the Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City this coming Wednesday, September 26, 2007, according to Dr. Ernesto M. Montecillo, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer of Laguna, and incumbent National President of the association and convenor of the forum.

Noted by Social Welfare and Development Secretary Esperanza Cabral, the letter of Dr. Montecillo said the award is in recognition of the full support of the City Government of San Pablo to consistently implement the Social Welfare and Development Program in the city under his leadership. Viz: the city indigency assistance program that received more than P15-million budgetary appropriation during Calendar Year 2006, and P23-million for Calendar Year 2007. Programs under the Gender and Development Programs are also provided with enough funds, as well as the assistance to the Senior Citizens Association.

Besides the Calamity Fund, the City’s Social Welfare and Development Office received additional fund from other sources to further enhance their relief assistance to calamity victims.

It must be recalled, that since 1993, under the leadership of Mayor Vicente B. Amante, San Pablo City is being chosen as “Outstanding Local Government Unit (City Level)” a presidential award under a program being jointly implemented by the National Economic and Development Council, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Health that he was recognized as “hall of famer” by President Fidel V.
