MANILA, Philippines— (UPDATE) The man who killed three people, including a 70-year-old widow in San Pablo City Tuesday afternoon is now behind bars, a police official told Inquirer.net.
Laguna Police director Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz said his men and members of the San Pablo City police finally caught Melvin Pido, who stabbed to death his former employer Zenaida Fronda, 70; her son Julius Fronda, 51; and their helper who went by the name Laleng inside their home at 284 Unson Street, 2C village in San Pablo City last week.

Cruz told Inquirer.net that Pido did not fight back or attempt to escape again after police negotiated with him to leave the Fine Rock Hotel in Calejan village, San Pablo City at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Pido will be charged with multiple murder, said CALABARZON police director, Chief Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao.

On Tuesday morning, Pagdilao ordered his men to hunt down Pido who evaded arrest Monday.

Former US Navy, ma, helper slain in Laguna house

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna—A former member of the United States Navy, his elderly mother and a house help were found dead inside their home in San Pablo City, Laguna Sunday afternoon, police said Monday.

Julius Fronda, 51, his mother Zenaida, 74, and their housemaid identified only as Laleng from Pitugo town, Quezon were found with multiple wounds inside the Fronda residence in Barangay 2-C at around 5 p.m., said Chief Supt. Leo Luna, San Pablo city police director.

Zanaida, a widow, has another son still on active duty with the US Navy, said Luna.
The bodies, all found inside Zenaida's room, bore slits in the neck and wounds in the head caused by a blunt object. The police believed the victims had been dead for over 24 hours when discovered.

Luna said Zenaida's brother-in-law, Ceferino Abril, who lived nearby, sought the help of village watchmen to check on the Frondas as he found it strange that no one came out of the house the whole day of Sunday. He also found it unusual that the house's gate was left slightly open.
When the authorities arrived, they found the house in disarray. The police recovered a broken rifle and a bloodied kitchen knife at the scene.

Luna said an undetermined amount of money, believed to be the family's income from the farm they owned, was missing.

"There was no sign of a forced entry (to the house). The suspect was someone the victims knew," Luna said.

He also said the murder was carried out by someone "very furious" based on the manner the victims were slain.

Police initially looked into robbery as a motive in the murder.
Luna said the family was "well-off," considering that another son is in the US Marines.
Police said they have identified the suspect but refused to give details as manhunt operations were still ongoing.
