2010 NARRDS BEST PAPER AWARDS

     LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – Executive Director Cesario R. Pagdilao reported that the National  Aquatic Resources Research and Development System (NARRDS) Awards were conferred during the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD)’s 23rd Founding Anniversary celebration held at PCAMRD Headquarters here last January 28, 2011. The awarding ceremony was attended by AGHAM Partylist Representative Angelo B. Palmones as keynote speaker, and Science Undersecretary  Carol Yorobe as representative of Science Secretary Mario G. Montejo.

     The Fifth Place of the Best Research Paper was awarded to Lea Ang Sinco-Jimenez of Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology, and her co-researchers for the paper entitled “Assessment of Sea Hare (Dollabella auricularia) Egg String as Marine Pollution Biomonitor Indicator in the Coastal Water of Region XI.” 

     The Fourth Place was awarded to the paper “Commercial Probiotic as Control Luminiscent Vibriosis in Mud Crab (Scylla serrata Forsskal, 1775) Larval Rearing” by Patricia M. Candelaria, Valeriano C. Corre, Jr., Nieves A. Toledo, Gaudiosa A. Gonzales, and Rolando V. Pakingking Jr. of Partido State University, University of the Philippines in the Visayas, and SEAFDEC-AQD, respectively. Third Place was awarded to the paper entitled “Vulnerability of Small Pelagic Fisheries to Climate Driven Variation of Productivity in Mindanao Sea: Potential Impact on Livelihood Sustainability and Local Adaptive Capacity” by Asuncion V. de Guzman, Cesaria R. Jimenez, Juliet M. Madula, Angelo C. Macario. Ryan A. Neri,  and Jerry P. Garcia.of Mindanao State University-Naawan.

     The Second Prize was was awarded to the paper entitled “In Vitro Antioxidant Activity of Hydrociathrus cluthratus Howe Scytusphonaceae.Phaeophyceae” by Zenaiuda M Agngarayngay, Ana Fe C. Llaguro, Elma B. Santos, and Revelyn Pacal of Mariano Marcos State University. The paper entitled “Non-Enzymatic Isolation of Somitic Cells from Kapaphicus Spp.Eucheumadinticulatum (Solieriaceae Rhodophyta)” by Ronelie C. Chato-Salvador, Francis A Tablizo, Crimson C. Tayca, and Arturo O. Luisma of University of Eastern Philippines and University of the Philippines-Marine Science Institute garnered First Prize, respectively.

     Under the Best Development Paper Category, Second Place was the Student Development Advocates” by Hilly Ann Roa Quiaoit, Divina Hojas-Lade, Joan Jamisolamin, and Carmella Jane Bellozo of Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro. First Place was won by Teresa Castillo of Mindanao State University of General Santos City for the paper “Integrated Lake Research Management in Lake Sebu, Lahit and Seleton. (PCAMRD Release)

Passed the BAR Examination in the State of New York, U. S. A.

Miss Philippines-USA 2004-2005, Barbara Jean Chumacera Apostol, 27, passed the New York State’s examination for admission to the BAR given on July 24-25, 2007 . She attained her law degree at Hofstra University School of Law in the State of New York where she graduated with honors last May 20, 2007 . At Hofstra Law School , Barbara was the Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and was appointed to the position of Diversity Affairs Coordinator by the president of the Student Bar Association. Ms. Apostol was a 2002 cum luade graduate of Boston College, one of the oldest Jesuit University in the United States with campus in Chestbut Hill, Massachusetts, where she majored in pre-law and communication studies. Incidentally, she completed her elementary and secondary education at Sachem High School in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY.
