COCONUT PLANTERS NOW ENJOY FREE SALT FERTILIZER

ALAMINOS, Laguna – To further enhance the implementation of the Participatory Coconut Planting Program (PCPP) of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in the Provinces of Laguna and Rizal, the Laguna/Rizal Provincial Coconut Development Office here are now distributring salt fertilizer to coconut planters on the average of 2 kilos of rock salt per fruit-bearing tree according to Provincial Coconut Development Manager Lannie M. Lapitan. Distribution of salt fertilizer are nring carried with the help of the concern Municipal Agriculturist and Municipal Fishery and Agriculture Council who are in direct contact with cocoland owners.

Ms. Lapitan reported that there are 17 coconut producing municipalities in Laguna, and three in Rizal

The salt fertilization project is one of the components of the Participatory Coconut Planting Program initiated by Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap and PCA Administrator Oscar G. Garin to help increase the coconut yield by 25 per cent, and coconut trees would be more tolerance to drought. PCA are also distributing seeds of glutinous white corn to coconut farmers at a rate of 10 kilos of seeds per hectare. They also provide for free Bio-N Fertilizer to help enhance the authority’s intercropping program initiated by Administrator Garin more than a year ago in the Province.

Laguna Provincial Agriculturist Marlon Tobias reported that intercropping of coconut plantation does not only help increase the yield from coconut trees, and help provide additional foods for the farmers, but it also help control or prevent the attack of rhinoceros beetle and other palm pests.

On the progress of the implementation of the Participatory Coconut Planting Program, Lapitan reported that they have already distributede 123,987 seednuts in Laguna, and 16,330 seednuts in Rizal which would already be ready for transfer in the plantation before the month of August.

Under the program, the farmer will receive P7 per seednut upon delivery, and another P5 when the plant reach the two feet height. And the final incentive of P20 will be given upon transfer of the seedling in the plantation. All payments are being paid directly to the participating farmers by PCA Regional Coconut Development Manager Edilberto de Luna.

San Pablo City’s Hagdang Bato

             Nobody knew the number of steps it has:   when it was constructed and by whom,   until Mayor Vicente B.
