PDG Calo Calora, GUEST AT RC SILANGAN INDUCTION RITES


Rotarian Rosauro “Orie” H. Suarez is happy to announce that Dr. Feliciano B. Calora will be the principal guest and main speaker during his formal induction as 33rd President of the Rotary Club of Silangang San Pablo this coming Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Mega Star Disco, Videoke Bar and Restaurant along Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Francisco which is expected to be attended by Rotarians representing clubs both in Southern Tagalog Provinces and in Bicolandia.


Dr. Calora is a member of Class 1955 at the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, who completed his post graduate studies in the field of entomology or study on the effect of insects in agriculture in 1962, at the famous Cornell University based in Ithaca, New York. Chosen as one of the Ten Most Oustanding Young Men (TOYM) by the Philippine Jaycees, Inc. in 1967, he is a retired professor at the UP College of Agriculture, and a former executive of American Cyamid Company, and presently a member of the governing body of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resouces Reseach and Development (PCARRD), and a recipient of the UP Vanguard Oblation Award he being a reserved officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.


Married to former Delia Almario Galvez, a San Pableña, and a resident of Los Baños, Rotarian Calo is a member of the Rotary Club of Los Baños, and a Past District Governor of Rotary International District 3820. Incidentally, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary last July 26, 2008. (Ben Taningco)

San Pablo City’s Hagdang Bato

             Nobody knew the number of steps it has:   when it was constructed and by whom,   until Mayor Vicente B. Amante asked his private secretary to actually count the number of steps and copy the wordings on the tablets affixed on the lower part of the park structure.             The Hagdang Bato (concrete stairway) leading to the Sampaloc Lake, which is now a famous local landmark, is now part of the logo or official seal of San Pablo, being the City of Seven Lakes.           It was constructed in November 1915 under the administration of municipal president Marcial Alimario, but many, including the youth and technical personnel of the local engineering office, simply look it for granted.  Nobody knew the number of steps it has, when it was constructed and by whom, until Mayor Vicente B.
