BRIG GEN JORGE VALBUENA SEGOVIA, 2nd ID COMMANDER


Brig. Gen. Jorge Valbuena Segovia formally assumed the post of

Commander of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighters) Division of the Philippine Army based at Camp Mateo Capinpin vice Brig. Gen. Florante B. Martinez, Acting Commander, last Thursday afternoon,July 23, 2009, at the camp parade ground in Barangay Sampaloc in Tanay, Rizal.

The turn-over ceremonies was presided by Lt. Gen. Delfin N. Bangit, Commanding General of the Philippine Army.


The 2nd Infantry Division, nicknamed Jungle Fighters, was formally put into active duty on February 1, 1970 with headquaters housed in Camp Vicente Lim in Canlubang, Calamba City, then it was moved to Barangsy Sampaloc in Tanay, Rizal.


The present headquarters, Camp General Mateo Capinpin, was named after Brigadier General Mateo M Capinpin, the gallant soldier of the 21st Infantry Division who rose from the ranks during World War II. It is strategically located at the foothills of the scenic Sierra Madre Mountain Range with an elevation of 1,400 feet above sea level and 70 kilometers just east of Manila.


Brigadier General Jorge Valbuena Segovia is the 26th Commander of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighters) Division, which is composed of the 201st Infantry (Kabalikat) Brigade; 202nd Infantry (Unifier) Brigade; and 204th Infantry (Bantay Kapayapaan) Brigade. And the Battalion units that are 1st Infantry Battalion; 4th Infantry (Get 'Em) Battalion; 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion; 59th Infantry (Protector) Battalion; 68th Infantry Battalion; 74th Infantry (Matatag) Battalion; 76th Infantry (Victrix) Battalion; and 80th Infantry (Raging Tamarraw) Battalion. Miss Philippines-USA 2004-2005, Barbara Jean Chumacera Apostol, 27, passed the New York State’s examination for admission to the BAR given on July 24-25, 2007 . She attained her law degree at Hofstra University School of Law in the State of New York where she graduated with honors last May 20, 2007 . At Hofstra Law School , Barbara was the Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and was appointed to the position of Diversity Affairs Coordinator by the president of the Student Bar Association. Ms. Apostol was a 2002 cum luade graduate of Boston College, one of the oldest Jesuit University in the United States with campus in Chestbut Hill, Massachusetts, where she majored in pre-law and communication studies.
