Parts of Mt. Banahaw remain closed for tourists

MANILA, Philippines -- Some areas in Mount Banahaw remain “off limits” to visitors, including pilgrims, for another three years as these remain highly susceptible to various geological hazards. 300 dogs rescued as cops bust Korean dogfighting ring for second time

MANILA, Philippines - Police raided a dogfighting arena in San Pablo City, Laguna operated by the same Korean syndicate they had busted last December. Six Koreans, Filipino caretakers and security guards were arrested during the Friday night raid in San Pablo. Anna Cabrera, program director of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society, said about 300 pit bulls and pit bull mixes were rescued from the two-hectare lot where the dogfight ring is located. However, around 20 dogs will have to be euthanized, she added. PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF SUMMER BORNE DISEASES CONDUCTED AMONG INMATES OF SPC DISTRICT JAIL

San Pablo City  - San Pablo City Medical Society led by Dra. Cynthia Sanchez and members of the Volunteers In Prison Service or VIPS led by its President, Mrs. Elsa Jarlego, conducted a Clean-Up Drive at the San Pablo City District Jail last March 11, 2012. The group leaders in cooperation with J/CInsp Arvin Abastillas, District Jail Warden, conducted several activities primarily to prevent and control some “Summer Borne Diseases” among inmates. Dra. Sanchez gave lectures and some helpful tips to prevent and control the occurrence of some summer borne diseases like “pigsa”, “bulutong” and other skin allergies.  Other activities conducted were sterilization of every cell by spraying multi-insecticide, pouring of boiling water to inmates’ clothing and beddings and distribution of Kwell and Lindell lotion to inmates. San Pablo City - Nag-uwi ng ilang medalya at award ang mga mag-aaral ng Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng San Pablo mula sa katatapos lamang na ALCU (Association of Local Colleges & Universities) Athletic Association Games 2012 nuong Marso 4-9 na ginanap sa RECS Complex, Sta. Cruz, Laguna. May 22 colleges at universities sa buong bansa ang naglaban laban sa sports competition na ito kung saan naging host ang Laguna University. Champion si Lino Fulloso sa Badminton sa Single-Men at 4th place naman sina Jenny Medina at Rei Anne Aricheta sa Doubles-Women. Silver medal naman ang naiuwi ni Marlan Eduard Marasigan sa Taekwando-Fly Weight Div. at apat na Bronze Medal sina Jarine Rosales sa Feather Weight, Glen Naling sa Light Weight, Sharmaine Briones at Kevin Gajiran sa Bantam Weight Divisions.
