CARD MRI IN SAN PABLO CITY IS 2008 RAMON MAGSAYSAY AWARDEE


RMAF President Carmencita T. Abella announces the eight (8) 2008 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees which include the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institution (CARD MRI) from San Pablo City, Laguna for Public Service.

CARD MRI, being represented by its founding chairman, Dr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip, are being honored for their successful adaption of microfinance in the Philippines, providing self-sustaining and comprehensive services for half a million poor women and their families.

Other awardees are Governor Grace Padaca of Isabela, Philippines, for Government Service; Therdchai Jivacate of Thailand for Public Service; Prakash Amte and Mandakini Amte from India for Community Leadership; Ananda Galappatti from Sri Lanka for Emergent Leadership; Akio Ishii from Japan for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts; and Ahmad Syafii Maarif from Indonesia for Peace and International Understanding .

As per schedule of activities, the 2008 Magsaysay Award Presentation Ceremonies will be held at Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Sunday, August 31, 2008 starting at 3:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, September 3, 2008, from 9:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m., Founding Chairman and Managing Director Jaime Aristotle Barte Alip will deliver his lecture on “Unleashing the Power of Microfinance.” At the Ramon Magsaysay Center along Roxas Boulevard in Manila. (Ben Taningco)

Passed the BAR Examination in the State of New York, U. S. A.

Miss Philippines-USA 2004-2005, Barbara Jean Chumacera Apostol, 27, passed the New York State’s examination for admission to the BAR given on July 24-25, 2007 . She attained her law degree at Hofstra University School of Law in the State of New York where she graduated with honors last May 20, 2007 . At Hofstra Law School , Barbara was the Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and was appointed to the position of Diversity Affairs Coordinator by the president of the Student Bar Association. Ms. Apostol was a 2002 cum luade graduate of Boston College, one of the oldest Jesuit University in the United States with campus in Chestbut Hill, Massachusetts, where she majored in pre-law and communication studies. Incidentally, she completed her elementary and secondary education at Sachem High School in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY.
