22ND FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY OF THE PHILIPPINE COUNCIL FOR AQUATIC AND MARINE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (PCAMRD)

     LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – With Science Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro as principal guest and main speaker, the 22nd Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD) will be commemorated this coming January 28 – 29, 2010 at their headquarters at Barangay Timugan here according to OIC Executive Director Cesario R. Pagdilao.


     The theme of this year celebration is “Sustaining Quality Management in Aquatic and Marine Resources Research and Development.”


     On the first day, the entries to the Fifth Aquatic Technology Competition and Marketplace (ATCOM) 2010 will be presented to the public at the AQUAMART Showroom at the basement of the building, where products developed by the participating agencies to the program of the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development System (NARRDS) Zonal Center will also be on display and for sale. The Science and Technology Road Map Validation Workshop  for Aquatic and Marine Sectors will also be held.


      On the second day, at the program to be attended by the various stakeholders of the aquatic and marine resources sectors, from academe, government, industry, and media, Director Cesario R. Pagdilao said the highlights  will be the presentation of their accomplishment reports for Calendar Year 2009, as well as the approved plans and programs that form part of the council’s agenda for 2010.


      Winners in the Aquatic Technology Competition, and in the NARRDS Best Papers in Research and Development for 2009 will be announced, and Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro will be invited to present the awards and rewards.


      Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development is one of the five sectoral councils in the Department of Science and Technology whose concern is to help uplift the status of aquatic and marine resources  research and developments in the Philippines. (Ruben E. Taningco)

San Pablo City’s Hagdang Bato

             Nobody knew the number of steps it has:   when it was constructed and by whom,   until Mayor Vicente B. Amante asked his private secretary to actually count the number of steps and copy the wordings on the tablets affixed on the lower part of the park structure.             The Hagdang Bato (concrete stairway) leading to the Sampaloc Lake, which is now a famous local landmark, is now part of the logo or official seal of San Pablo, being the City of Seven Lakes.           It was constructed in November 1915 under the administration of municipal president Marcial Alimario, but many, including the youth and technical personnel of the local engineering office, simply look it for granted.  Nobody knew the number of steps it has, when it was constructed and by whom, until Mayor Vicente B.
