Matapos tanggapin ni City Mayor Arlene Arcillas-Nazareno (gitna) ang Special Citition para sa Santa Rosa City Disaster Coordinating Council ay sinamahan siya sa pagpapalarawan nina (mula kaliwa) Vice Mayor Manuel Alipon, OCD director Vicente Tomazar, Dr. Florida M. Dijan, Gobernadora Teresita S. Lazaro, Police Chief Superintendent Ricardo I. Padilla, at Konsehal Arnel Gomez. (CIO/Santa Rosa)



CAMP VICENTE LIM, Calamba City – Piinagkalooban ng Regional Disaster Coordinating Council-Region IV-A (RDCC-CALABARZON) ng Special Citation ang Santa Rosa City Disaster Coordinawting Council dahilan sa pagkakaroon nito ng namumukod tanging palatuntunan sa maayos na paghahatid ng tulong sakali’t may bantang panganib sa mga mamamayan o disaster risk management.

Ang gawad ay personal na tinanggap ni Mayor Arlene Arcillas-Nazareno mula kina PRO-IV-A Regional Director Ricardo I. Padilla, RDCC-IVA Chairman, at Office of Civil Defense-Region IV-A Regional Director Vicente Tomazar, RDCC Head of Secretariat, na sinaksihan nina Gobernadora Teresita S. Lazaro at Dr. Florida M. Dijan, Officer-in-Charge nf Office of the Regional Director ng DILG-Region IV-A sa Palatuntunang Regional Gawad Kalasag 2008 na ginanap sa Multi-Purpose Hall ditto noong nakaraang Biyernes, Oktubre 10, 2008.Ang tema ng palatuntunan ay “Pag-Alerto, Malayo Sa Peligro.”

Magugunita na sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), at pakikipagtulungan ng Department of Science and Technology-Region IV, at Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council na pinangunguluhan ni Gobernadora Teresita S. Lazaro na iniuugnay sa pagdiriwang ng National Disaster Consciousness Month noong nakaraang Buwan ng Hulyo ay itinatag at pinasinayaan ng Santa Rosa City Disaster Coordinating Council ang isang Disaster Operations Center na may kagamitang tulad ng rain measuring devices, at flood measuring paraphernalia na siyang gagabay sa pangasiwaang lokal sa pagbibigay ng tamang babala sa mga mamamayan nito kung may nagaganap na malalakas na pag-ulan o may nagdaraang bagyo.

Ipinapansin ni OCD-Region IV-A Regional Director Vicente Tomazar na Santa Rosa City ang kaunaunahang local government unit sa Laguna na nagtatag ng Community-Based Flood Early Warning Device System na malaking tulong sa maka-agham na paraan ng pagkakaloob ng babala ukol sa bantang panganib sa bawa’t partikular na pamayanan o lawak ng lunsod.

Sa inisyatibo ni Mayor Arlene Arcillas-Nazareno, bilang tagapangulo ng Santa Rosa City Disaster Coordinating Council, na kabisado ang geography and topography ng kanyahg pinangangasiwaang lunsod, ay reorganized na lahat ang Barangay Disaster Brigade sa 18 barangay ng lunsod, at ang mga bumubuo nito, kasama ng mga bumubuo ng CDCC, ay napagkalooban na ng kaukulang pagsasanay sa Contingency Planning. Maging ang inorganisa ng punonglunsod na Emergency Response Team ay nakapagsanay na sa water search and rescue operations sa tulong ng Office of Civil Defense-Region IV-A. (Ben Taningco)

Miss Philippines-USA 2004-2005, Barbara Jean Chumacera Apostol, 27, passed the New York State’s examination for admission to the BAR given on July 24-25, 2007 . She attained her law degree at Hofstra University School of Law in the State of New York where she graduated with honors last May 20, 2007 . At Hofstra Law School , Barbara was the Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and was appointed to the position of Diversity Affairs Coordinator by the president of the Student Bar Association. Ms. Apostol was a 2002 cum luade graduate of Boston College, one of the oldest Jesuit University in the United States with campus in Chestbut Hill, Massachusetts, where she majored in pre-law and communication studies.
