The Alyansa ng mga Grupong Haligi ng Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Mamamayan or AGHAM has filed its manifestation of intent to run in the 2010 election under the party-list system.
AGHAM President, Mr. Angelo B. Palmones, led the group that filed the manifestation with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). With him were Mr. Anselmo G. Adriano, Vice President for National Capital Region, Dr. Florentino O. Tesoro, Treasurer, and Dr. Ruby Ephraim Rubiano, Secretary-General.
Organized in 2005, AGHAM is a non-stock, non-profit association of science professionals, science journalists, science advocates and enthusiasts registered with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). It aims to (1) promote science education and a culture of science among our people; (2) advocate national policies and programs that will advance science and technology for sustainable development and well-being of the Filipino; (3) assist and support Filipino science workers engaged in research and development, in invention and popularization of technologies and products; and (4) promote the welfare and well-being of Filipino science and technology workers and the sustainability of science-based institutions, organization and enterprises.
“It has been long overdue that science and technology (S & T) advancement be given priority attention,” says Palmones. “As shown by data, our neighboring countries are advancing ahead of the Philippines because they largely invest in Science & Technology. It is not yet too late. Let us harness the benefits of Science & Technology to boost our economic development and help improve the lives of our people,” Palmones added. (Vicky B.
