Miss U. S. A. International 2009 is a Filipino-American



20-year old Filipino-American Aileen Jan Valdehuesa Yap is the new Miss U S A International who will represent the United States of America in the 49th Miss International pageant to be held at the Venetian Macao Resort in Macau, China on November 7, 2009 according to President Zaida Yte Yadao of the Filipino-Amercian Community in Houston, Texas.


Earlier chosen as Miss Texas U S Interantional 2009, Aileen Jan represented the State of Texas in the pageant that was held from 7-10 July 2009 at the Stafford Conference Centre in Houston, Texas.and the other winners are: Ms. Wyoming Keri Shar, fourth runner up; ; Ms. California Kristy Davis, third runner up; Ms. Michigan Shawna Vale, second runner up and Ms. Florida Lees Darayanne Garcia, first runner up.


AJ is the daughter of a Filipino immigrant, Dr. Boy Yap from Cebu, and her American mother, former Geget Valdehuesa, a nurse, of Houston. She graduated as the Most Outstanding Student at the Sacred Heart School in Conroe, Texas and went on to graduate Summa cum Laude at Willis High School. Presently A.J. is a junior at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas majoring in biology


During the preliminary competitions for the swimsuit and evening gowns held July 8 at the Hilton Hotel Ballroom in Houston. A.J. won both the “Best in Swimsuit” and “Best in Evening Gown” awards.


The next day the contestants had a private interview with the judges. And at the question and answer portion A.J. was asked by Emcee Alex Trevino to describe her recent vacation in the Philippines. (Ruben E. Taningco)

San Pablo City’s Hagdang Bato

             Nobody knew the number of steps it has:   when it was constructed and by whom,   until Mayor Vicente B. Amante asked his private secretary to actually count the number of steps and copy the wordings on the tablets affixed on the lower part of the park structure.             The Hagdang Bato (concrete stairway) leading to the Sampaloc Lake, which is now a famous local landmark, is now part of the logo or official seal of San Pablo, being the City of Seven Lakes.           It was constructed in November 1915 under the administration of municipal president Marcial Alimario, but many, including the youth and technical personnel of the local engineering office, simply look it for granted.  Nobody knew the number of steps it has, when it was constructed and by whom, until Mayor Vicente B.
