BAY, Laguna (PIA) --The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) management is crafting a new master plan for Laguna de Bay.
LLDA General Manager Rodrigo Cabrera said that they have begun conducting public consultations on the proposed blueprint, the primary goal of which is to protect and prolong the life of the country’s largest inland freshwater lake.
Cabrera said they have invited stakeholders- fishermen, factories, business sector representatives and local government officials to participate in the consultation process.
The goal is to make the best master plan for the long-term use and welfare of the Laguna Lake region.
Cabrera said suggestions, as what came out recently in full-page ads in several dailies by Laguna Governor E.R. Ejercito and mayors of the province are welcomed.
He said the ads stated that the Laguna Lake rapidly deteriorated because of rapid deforestation, unabated land conversion and abuse of lake water for the past years.
It all stated that the lake has potentials to generate for livelihood in agriculture, transportation, tourism and water supply.
Cabrera said he looks forward to having these concerns addressed in the Master Plan which will be drafted to cover matters on watershed, rivers, lake water quality, shore land development and illegal settlements, among others.
He expressed his dedication to capitalize on the gains achieved by the LLDA in several facets of its fight to curb pollution in the lake. (PIA-Laguna/ffc)
